Proactiv= Crack for my Skin

So...today I woke up and decided that enough was enough.... I have been playing this back and forth game for about 6 months now. What game you ask? The clear skin game.

So for many years, it has to be over 7 years I have been using Proactiv. I started using it because my sister gave me some left over cleanser that she had. And from there my love-hate relationship with Proactiv began.

I honestly don't remember what I used to wash my face before proactiv. But anyways, Proactiv is just way too expense. It really is... I never had a serious acne problem prior to using Proactiv. I just wanted my skin to be clearer and smooth from occasional blemishes..

So after having a mini falling out with Proactiv this past January, basically they kept sending me more and more products and charging my credit card even though I countlessly asked them to STOP, I resolved to no more proactiv. They refuses to take back the product that they sent me and charged me $60. So I took some pics of those bad boys and sold it on ebay.

After then I was resolved to find another skin care product that didn't cost over $40. I tried Ambi...Ambi was working just fine for about a month, but now looking back in hindsight, I guess it wasnt working, maybe my skin was maintaining because after all those years it was used to proactiv. But the next thing you know, I was breaking out all the time, my skin wasn't smooth and I was having these huge pimples that were the size of Stone Mountain.

So in the meantime, I started using this Mary Kay Cleansing bar that my mom got from her coworker. It was alright, but it made my face kind of dry after a while and smelled kind of odd. Also I think it as for old people...anyways, I decided to stop using that even though I do use it intermittently.

I decided to switch to Neutrogena's facial products, maybe it was all of the brain washing of the commercials. But I liked the way it smelled, but it wasn't really doing anything for my skin. Don't get me wrong I tried these products for a while. I used more than half of the cleanser, and I was still even using the Ambi Daily Moisturizer.

So that is when I had the epiphany today, that I need to just go back to the dark side. I realized that even though the Proactiv company makes me mad because they potentially rip people off with their "club" and automatic shipping of things that you didn't ask for, their product works. So I went to the mall kiosk that has an automatic vending machine type thing and got my proactiv. I'll let yall know how it goes. Hopefully my skin goes back to being amazing!

McRib is Back

So I really don't get why people go so crazy over the McRib... then again I have never tried it.. lol. What I think is even more hilarious is the fact that McDonalds always has it out for a limited time.. lol. Anyways, it's coming back, November 2nd to be exact, and there is a pretty hilarious video thanks to the Colbert Report. Enjoy.

Double Rainbow- What Does this Mean?

So week one is down and I'm feeling like I've been in school for about a month now...eek. I was in my Ophthalmic Optics class and my professor showed us the double rainbow video. Apparently it has been one of those youtube hit videos, but watching it early in the morning was hilarious... But then I watched it again, and I just couldn't stop laughing. Of course this optometry related, don't get me started on the visual spectrum and my Visual Perception textbook has a huge rainbow on the front. Well basically the video is funny you have to watch it...it's below:

Coke Bottle Glasses...

So one morning last semester, my Clinical Optometry professor showed us this video.. I meant to post it a while ago, but clearly I have slacking on posts..good thing I remembered. For some reason, I was dying laughing in class, but after watching it again, it was still pretty funny... so enjoy! Oh and Blogger introduced this new template designer thingy, so I am going to try it out because I have been wanting to change the design of my blog for some time now (change is good). Geesh I have a lot to catch up on, I need to rededicate myself to blogger. I'll be better next week...lol.

Obama Chia Pet and Quick Update

So if this isn't funny I don't know what is...I didn't even know Chia Pet's were still being sold..Hilarious! I busted out laughing when I saw this, my favorite part is they call it the "Great American Series." They even have a ridiculous video/advertisement to accompany the product. Maybe it is/was an April Fool's Joke...either way it is still funny and I wonder how many people will actually buy it. Here is the video:

So hopefully everyone laughed as hard as me...I just wanted to do a quick update. Right now I am on my spring break..it has been GREAT! Honestly the week has really flown by! I can't believe it is Friday. I have really been able to catch up on my sleep which has been nice. The weather outside has been marvelous, even reaching and exceeding 80 degrees (doing a happy dance). Unlike STL, flowers and trees are really starting to blossom; it just looks beautiful outside. One of my professors, gave us some work to do (notes to review) and what not..definitely don't feel like doing it..Let's just be honest, I probably won't do it until Sunday when I get to "Misery/Missouri." There have been a lot of changes in my life, but we will see what all becomes of it... (not jumping to any conclusions, like the Jump to Conclusions mat on Office Space)

Fashion Faux Pas

So I have been meaning to write this post for some time...especially one day when my sister called me to tell me about some girl who is wearing tights (that were too thin) and you can see her underwear...yuck! Serious Fashion Faux Pas...

So here are MY personal top 10 fashion faux pas...please please please, if at all possible try and avoid thanks! Oh and by no means I am NOT a fashion guru or fashion police...I just think some things are kinda tacky...
  1. Wearing white socks with dress shoes. (you are not MJ)
  2. Not wearing the proper underwear, under thing or light colored clothes...(yuck.)
  3. Panty lines, panty lines, panty lines... (enough said)
  4. Wearing a dress/skirt in the winter without stockings, leggings, tights.. (It's cold outside!)
  5. Being extremely better dressed than your kids...(you are in the latest fashions, while your kids have rags on and snot coming out of their nose)
  6.  Socks with sandals...
  7. Thinking that shirt you just bought is actually a dress...yikes.
  8. Being too "matchy-matchy"... (you don't need your purple shirt to match with your purple earrings, purple necklace, purple tights, purple shoes, purple scarf, purple belt, oh and purple finger nail polish)
  9. The tights as pants thing...needs to pass..
  10. Biting someone else's style...BE ORIGINAL!

Sorry...Bernice Jenkins...

So I am not sure why I haven't heard this before I guess it was before my time... but while I was looking through The Snob's site, I heard it.. hilarious!...This is how ridiculous it sounds when people try and apologize when they do outlandish things.

I figured I would include another funny video...Rickey Smiley always makes me laugh...hope you laugh too!

Little Known Black History Facts

So I meant to just spend the beginning of my day relaxing (Mental Health Mini Day), but somehow that turned into the whole day. That's definitely not cool since I feel so behind in all of my classes. But I got a lot done, such as laundry, which I have not done since before Winter Break (early Dec). I was able to clean up my place and just get my life in order.

So I don't remember how I came across this person's Tumblr website, but it hilarious. Check it out if you want a good laugh.

http://littleknownblackhistoryfacts.tumblr.com/

Oh and I added a "Reaction" feature at the bottom of each post. So if you think the post is interesting, funny, or cool. Just check it...I couldn't think of any other reactions, so I just stuck with the default...for now at least... (I'm not a default kind of person). Anyways...

Baby It's cold Outside...

So while I was studying for finals, I made a quick post about things that I wanted to discuss at a later date when I got the time...So since Christmas is tomorrow, I figured I'd get the first thing off the list...

The funniest Christmas song to me is Baby It's Cold Outside...here is a video:

And the lyrics:

I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away - Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been - Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice - I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what's your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry - Beautiful, please don't hurry
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink - No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight
To break the spell - I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried - What's the sense in hurting my pride?
I really can't stay - Baby don't hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

C'mon baby

I simply must go - Baby, it's cold outside
The answer is no - Ooh darling, it's cold outside
This welcome has been - I'm lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm - Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look delicious
My brother will be there at the door - Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious - Gosh your lips are delicious
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Never such a blizzard before

I've got to go home - Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your coat - It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand - I thrill when you touch my hand
But don't you see - How can you do this thing to me?
There's bound to be talk tomorrow - Think of my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay - Get over that hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

Baby it's cold outside

Brr its cold.
It's cold out there
Cant you stay awhile longer baby
Well..I really shouldn't...alright

I first heard it last year while shopping (or pretending to shop) in some uppity store...I couldn't help but laugh out loud! I know the sales people must have thought I was crazy. lol. And just like any Christmas song and Carol it has been recorded and rerecorded by everyone! I couldn't really decide which version to put, but I think you get the point.

The funniest/ eek-worthy lines are definitely her asking  "Say what's in this drink" while later on the male character replies "mind if I move closer" "what's the sense in hurting my pride" "baby don't hold out"... wow! This song debuted in the 40s...anyways. At least I can cross one thing off my list..

1. My favorite Christmas song (this year)
2. The fair trade movement
3. The current state of Natural Hair
4. How much is an education really worth?
5. Are the regions of the US really that different and are these particular stereotypes valid?
6. Knowledge as a Commodity
7. What is urban?
8. Consumerism

Booty Pop

So I stumbled across this website/product thanks to Twitter. So it's called Booty Pop Panties and it is basically to give you a "larger" ""booty"". So sad...so sad. But the website is hilarious they show lots of Before/After pictures of this chick. Let's just call her Susie or Becky..lol. But yeah they come in all kinds of colors and are $30 a pair. I just don't understand why people can't be happy with their bodies and what they have/don't have. Oh well, I guess I can't relate. lol. Here is a direct quote from the website..

"As a Celebrity wardrobe stylist, one of my biggest problems is that many of my clients do not have enough butt to make their rears look full, round or just do not have a great shape butt. Trust me, not everyone has a booty. I can not seem to find jeans that fit my clients well enough to make their butts look good, they keep complaining about their butts being flat in their jeans. Some are even contemplating getting implants....it does not make sense! When I heard about Booty Pop, I immediately bought a few pairs and brought them to my clients. When they tried them on with their jeans, shorts, slacks or dress pants, they could not believe their eyes and believe that such a cute pair of underwear could make such a miracle. You should have seen the smiles Booty Pop put on their faces, it was like magic! They instantly enhance a butt and my clients swore to never take them off. I do not usually give my tricks of the trade to the public but booty pop is too good to keep to myself. I know booty pop will make many women happy."
Jennifer Rosenblatt
Styled American Idol judge Paula Abdul

Wow...my fav line is "You should have seen the smiles Booty Pop put on their faces, it was like magic!" sigh...Sadness, but hilarious. Off to the library. Until Next Time...

9 Words/Phrases Women Use

So I was "browsing" through people's fb pages and I came across this in someone's quote section. All of these statements were true...lol. I thought I would share, (just for giggles).

9 Words/Phrases Women Use:

1. "Fine": This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

2. "Five Minutes": If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

3. "Nothing": This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

4. "Go Ahead": This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

5. "Loud Sigh": This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)

6. "That's Okay": This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

7. "Thanks": A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome.

8. "Whatever": Is a women's way of saying F YOU!

9. "Don't worry about it, I got it": Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking "What's wrong?" For the woman's response refer to #3.

Oh did I mention? Happy Halloween! Don't forget to turn your clocks back! Yay for Daylight Savings!

No Sex with Roommate Present

Ok so I have this crazy burst of energy, I'm not sure where it came from. Anyways... I just watched this CNN video on Tufts banning sex in a dorm room while the roommate is present and also that you can't "sexile"...lol. I think it's hilarious. Now at some point in undergrad (probably freshman year) you had a roommate, so I feel like most people should have something to say about this..whether it was you who was having the sex, doing the sexiling, or being sexiled or if your roommate was perfectly ok with it; whatever the case may be I think it is part of the whole college (freshman year) experience. Learning how to negotiate awkward, potentially awkward, or maybe not awkward at all situations...Thankfully I had a great freshman roommate...lol. Oh well...here is the video. I'll copy and paste some quotes from the article...have a good laugh.

A new policy at Tufts University prohibits students in dorms from having sex while their roommate is in the room, according to the university's 2009-2010 student handbook. The Massachusetts university's formal rule also bars so-called "sexiling" -- exiling a roommate from the room so the other roommate can engage in sexual activity. The new guidelines for students hosting overnight guests say, "You may not engage in sexual activity while your roommate is present in the room. And sexual activity within your assigned room should not ever deprive your roommate(s) of privacy, study, or sleep time."

Dance Like David Danced...

So I saw this video a longgg time ago, but I never got around to posting it...and it recently came up on my Youtube feed...so I just decided to post it. It's hilarious...every time I see it, I die laughing... The second video is funny too, but not as good as the first. But the best part in the second video is when the guys pulls his daughter out of the way because he knows what is about to happen. Enjoy..

Oh did I mention I am dreading starting classes again tomorrow? Until Next Time...

I "lol"ed

I just had to post this very quickly because it is cutting into my study time. I am not sure if you all have checked out Marc Jacobs "Special Items." Basically it is designs, clothing, and mostly accessories by Marc Jacobs for the low low. So I was browsing through the items, and at the end I came to a Marc Jacobs condom...yes I said it. A condom.. Marc Jacobs is selling condoms for $1.50 in their Marc by Marc Jacobs stores. "Remember safety first! xxoo, Marc Jacobs"... Yeah I don't know what that is about. Here is the link Check this out.

Anyways...there are also many other really cute and reasonably priced things you can check out. So here is the general website. http://www.marcjacobs.com/#/en-us/specialitems.. I mean who doesn't want designer clothes for the low. Until Next Time...

Role Models...

I truly appreciate a funny movie...when I find one they make me sooo happy. So apparently the breakout funny movie of the year/summer was "The Hangover." Even though I felt like the last person to watch it, I saw it and I thought it was pretty funny...but def not as funny as everyone made it out to be. So last week I watched Role Models at my friends place. I thought it was sooo hilarious. I died laughing like every scene. I thought it had a great story line as well, which I think is missing from a lot of funny movies. Anyways...it is not the newest movie (came out last year), but if you are bored, it's a must see...

Oh yeah let me give the gist of it...lol. hmm...this is kind of hard without telling the movie. So umm.. Two guys screw up and they have to do a whole bunch of community service hours so they don't go to jail and they choose a mentorship program.

Wild behavior forces a pair of energy drink reps to enroll in a Big Brother program.- That is the tagline from IMDb...pretty much what I said. lol. That's all for now...Until Next Time...

TTT, The Latest Health Epidemic...

So I came across this video sometime last week. I thought it was kinda funny, but sad...and true. I am guilty of excessive texting, and I think my thumbs have felt numb a couple times...hopefully I don't have this issue...I know I definitely don't text up to 30,000 texts a month though. Thats a bit crazy...So here is the video courtesy of CNN describing "Teen Texting Tendonitis"

So after sharing the TTT story with my one of my best friends...she shared this link with me. It is a story about a teen girl falling in an open manhole-five feet below ground to open sewage...EEEWWW! Whoever she was texting better have been worthwhile. It's an interesting story. Check out the article HERE!!

A random thought before I go...I think it is interesting that the spell check doesn't recognize texting as a properly spelled word...is it a word?lol. Until Next Time...

Ready or Not

Ok so this post will be a little more lighthearted than my last...clearly I was having a moment (even though I've felt like that for most of the summer)...but I just wanted to discuss BEING PREPARED...

Note: If you ever plan on having people meet your parents or they are visiting your house for the first time, you need to prepare your guest.

Yesterday, I went to the Laser Show at Stone Mountain, which I L-O-V-E (it never gets old). Anyways..so after that my friend had to drop by his parents house to get something, so I thought no big deal...But what I didn't know is that I was going to go inside and meet his parents. Which I usually don't mind, but in some situations, it can be nerve wracking...luckily I was fully clothed and in the right frame of mind...

Anyways...so we go inside and I'm like dang, how did I let him talk me into this...he hugs his parents and then IMMEDIATELY says he has to use the rest room. All I could think in my head was WHATTTT....are you kidding me? Are you really about to leave me alone with your parents! But I played it cool, and they ushered me into the living room and after his mom told me she heard so much about me, I got a little nervous, but they were pretty cool. His mom was watching "The Daily Show" which I thought was extra funny...but I didn't want to laugh too loud.

So after like 15-20 minutes he comes back and he is like he's ready to go...so I stand up relieved...once goodbyes were almost over I thought I was free...then his mom exclaims, "Vanessa, you didnt take off your shoes!" I look down at my shoes and say "ohhh"...and then she smacks me on my ass/thigh! lol. That caught me off guard....lol. Of course everyone erupts in laughter and I was laughing the hardest, because I couldn't believe she smacked me on my butt...lol. I would say that is a Caribbean thing to do because I could see my mom doing the same thing...Nevertheless...half of the drive to our next destination...I couldn't stop telling him, how he DID NOT prepare me for that at all...

So moral of the story, prepare your guests...Until Next Time...

Judge not, that ye be not Judged...

After last night and all of the madness that was the BET awards, there has been so many opinions about the awards show. According to mostly twitter and some facebook, it seems as though half of the people thought it was repulsive and set black people back a few years and then the other half just found the comical nature in it. Honestly, I am between the two camps...but what I did want to address today is what a lot of people seemed have negative commnents about (there were a lot of elements in the show), but I'm going to discuss the Mary Mary performance of "God in Me" which was featuring Queen Latifah (Even though I was disturbed by Wayne and all the kids on the stage...(another post)).

Ok whew...deep breath. First let me say, that I in fact like the song a lot, and I think it is a great song to listen to in order to remember that NO ONE knows your relationship with God but you. Also I think it is important to keep in mind that they have gotten a lot of criticism from their video as well, which featured many popular artists. Anywho...so folks were saying that they were ungodly because of their clothes or the beat of this particular song. So what I'm wondering is what did you want them to wear? Long drab gowns? Or large pant suits? Part of what makes Mary Mary and other "urban gospel artists" so effective is they appeal to many people who might not even be saved, but by listening to their songs who knows what may happen...

The ironic part is if people actually stopped and listened to the song it is addresses exactly what people are doing, which is JUDGING. I think judging has become a global epidemic...not even in the world, but as small as a local/college level happens because people judge and don't know who you truly are or what you believe. So here comes an artist that has been able to transcend what people usually think of gospel music (a large choir, jubilant director, and passionate people performing solos), and they are still criticized. So is gospel music only acceptable if you are in long choir robes that cover up every inch of your body? I will post some lyrics here and let you interpret it yourself...

But what they don't know is when you go home
and get behind closed doors man you hit the floor
and what they can't see is your on your knees
So the next time you get it just tell em
It's the God in me

(My fav verse...wasn't performed on the awards show)
Kierra Sheard:
What is it you think you see
when you see me, you see me
You don't know how much I pray
don't know how much I gave
don't know how much I changed
I'm just trying to explain
It's the God in me.

So anyways...all I'm saying is what do people expect from you if you are saved? I think the dichotomy that we create, makes people think they cannot obtain a healthy relationship with God; we are all imperfect striving to be better..

So anyone that really knows me, knows that I believe most problems can be solved with much personal introspection. Often people are looking to blame others for their problems/issues/things that have happened, but things are different once you look within yourself. So I think it will be fitting to conclude with a bible verse.

Matthew 7:3-5 3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Until Next Time...

Trying something New...

So I'm watching the BET Awards...which is hilarious btw...Thanks BET for 3.5 hours of pure comedy (don't ask why it is this long). But I just had to blog about this...cause I have been thinking about it for some time...TWITTER! Yes...twitter. So I posted as my facebook status: For all you folks updating your facebook statuses on the randomness of the BET Awards...just get on Twitter...it's so much easier. lol....I thought no big deal and I kept it moving, but of course I knew I was going to get some comments, but not that many.

So I just wanted to discuss why folks seem to detest twitter. I'm not going to lie, when I first heard of twitter, I wasn't completely sold on it. I thought it was silly, and a waste of time (but isn't most things). Anyways...so I was completely bored at the beginning of the summer and I decided to get a twitter account to see what the hype was about(which is what I usually do, before I say I don't like something) and also because one of my closest friends had been pressuring me about it for the longest time.

So I got it...and it was ok...which is what I think twitter is...I don't think it is life changing/altering or essential, but you will surprised how much downtime you have and instead of sending a text to multiple friends, updating your twitter is just as easy. So basically I went through all that to finally get to my point...which is about resistance. What happened to Obama's "change" premise. I don't think twitter will change the world or the way we think but it is something new. Just like lots and lots of people opposed facebook when it first came out and didn't want to try it...I feel like it is the same with twitter (and those same folks are on fb now).

I'm often down for trying new things...just because it doesn't hurt. All I ask is you don't vehemently oppose something that you have NOT even tried. And again, I always say twitter isn't for everyone (just like most things in the world), so if you try it and you still think it is stupid that's cool with me... I just know that I hopefully won't be the old lady who doesn't want to try something new because I think it is stupid when the whole world is passing me by. I just urge everyone to try and step out of the box somehow...no it doesn't have to be with twitter, but trying something new will definitely keep your life interesting and fun!
