Ok so I have this crazy burst of energy, I'm not sure where it came from. Anyways... I just watched this CNN video on Tufts banning sex in a dorm room while the roommate is present and also that you can't "sexile"...lol. I think it's hilarious. Now at some point in undergrad (probably freshman year) you had a roommate, so I feel like most people should have something to say about this..whether it was you who was having the sex, doing the sexiling, or being sexiled or if your roommate was perfectly ok with it; whatever the case may be I think it is part of the whole college (freshman year) experience. Learning how to negotiate awkward, potentially awkward, or maybe not awkward at all situations...Thankfully I had a great freshman roommate...lol. Oh well...here is the video. I'll copy and paste some quotes from the article...have a good laugh.
A new policy at Tufts University prohibits students in dorms from having sex while their roommate is in the room, according to the university's 2009-2010 student handbook. The Massachusetts university's formal rule also bars so-called "sexiling" -- exiling a roommate from the room so the other roommate can engage in sexual activity. The new guidelines for students hosting overnight guests say, "You may not engage in sexual activity while your roommate is present in the room. And sexual activity within your assigned room should not ever deprive your roommate(s) of privacy, study, or sleep time."

Why Women Do "It"
Good ol' CNN... This video was short and well put together. It's basically snippets of women saying "why they have sex"... Something that I observed is the only black woman in the video is on her cell phone...lol.

le sigh...
So in a weird sort of way, the more things that I have to do, the more time I seem to have to create out of thin air..Anyways.. basically I'm saying I have waaaaaaayyy to much to do to be writing this blog post, but I have to keep doing something that I "enjoy" so I don't officially go crazy. This weekend I went home, which was absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! It was the break I needed and I feel as though it rejuvenated me, and gave me gusto to continue my journey. Anyways, I'm back now. :( I was sooo sad when my plane landed yesterday.
So my first round of exams went pretty well. I know that I could have done better, but I'm not completely mad. Next week will be crazy again! Neuroanatomy exam, Anatomy and Phys exam, Optics Quiz, Epi Exam, and A & P lab quiz...yup...ca-razy.
I'm trying to figure out when I am going to go grocery shopping. I finally caved in and I'm going to buy a coffee machine. I almost poked my eyes out this morning. I was sooo tired. I couldn't even put my contacts in, I rushed to class. And there was my Optics quiz sitting on the table...ready for me to take. I think I did alright though, made a couple of stupid mistakes..
Anyways...I'm just trying to hang in there. The original reason I started this post was to discuss me being stubborn. I am extremely stubborn, although I have gotten much better. Anyways...I'm being vague. Oh and this is also random, but I listen to Ashlee Simpson when I'm frustrated.lol. This song is soo me...
I walked a thousand miles while everyone was asleep
Nobody's really seen my million subtleties
Got stains on my t-shirt and I'm the biggest flirt
Right now I'm solo, but that will be changing eventually, oh
Got bruises on my heart and sometimes I get dark
If you want my auto, want my autobiography
Baby, just ask me
I walked a thousand miles to find one river of peace
I walked a million more to find what this shit means
Until Next Time...

Dance Like David Danced...
So I saw this video a longgg time ago, but I never got around to posting it...and it recently came up on my Youtube feed...so I just decided to post it. It's hilarious...every time I see it, I die laughing... The second video is funny too, but not as good as the first. But the best part in the second video is when the guys pulls his daughter out of the way because he knows what is about to happen. Enjoy..

Easy Like Sunday Morning...
Hello there! So wow this has definitely been a whirlwind week... All I did was study and take exams. For the most part all of them went well, but one... :( That's a long story, which I am pretty upset about, but I'm not trying to go there right now...I am still waiting for my results from my exam from Friday back.
So people weren't joking when they said all you do is study. Studying for these first round of exams was like studying for a final, it was just sooo much information and you were expected to know everysingle detail. Absolutely ridiculous...and don't get me wrong, I definitely studied for my science classes in undergrad, but it just isn't even comparable.Oh well, I'm hanging in there.
On Friday, I went to go check out my dream apartment. It was soo amazing. :-) It is everything that I want and more and the best part is it is affordable. It has a fireplace, washer and dryer, balcolny, with a storage unit, huge walk in closets, a large mirror on the wall in the bedroom.. (*wink), in a great part of STL, great pool, basketball courts, tennis courts.... Just absolutely amazing.
Gosh I can't wait to move! Especially since I H-A-T-E my apartment now. Gosh I hate this place. My absolute disgust and hatrid for this place reached the plateau yesterday. So Labor day weekend, I ordered my Miss Jessie's hair product and had it sent here. Usually it takes 3-5 business days...So I have been going in the darn office looking for my package like 4 times and they kept telling me it wasn't there. So I decided to just look at the tracking information, only to see that it was delivered and signed for on SEPT 11th...keep in mind blogfolks, that it is now the 20th...that was 9 days ago. Wtf! Like I am heated! The darn place only opens for 2 hours today and of course I will be there trying to find my $30 hair product. Ughhh I was soo pissed, I even had this crazy dream about the whole ordeal last night. lol.
Anyways...whew! Oh yeah that Friday my classmate had an "EYE-Land" party which was fun. It was a luau/island theme. Lots of fun! So on Saturday I went to Six Flags, which was sooo much fun. Gosh I forgot how much I liked riding roller coasters. I screamed like I was crazy on pretty much every single ride. It was soo nice and it was a great stress reliever. The optometry program had a little lunch pavilion and there were a few companies there giving out random stuff and networking and what not. It was cool. But of course I was super "geeked" on the rides. I don't even know what my fav one was...maybe "Mr Freeze" or "the Boss." That is exactly what I needed after my super long and crazy week...
So I'm not completely ecstatic about starting another week...oh well, I have to do what I need to do. Hopefully before I know it, I'll be graduating... I'm trying not to get burned out, but it is super easy. Oh well, I am going to do laundry, go grocery shopping, update my budget, and study of course. But there is nothing like a Sunday morning, even though I do feel guilty for not going to church. My feet hurt like crazy...ugh I can't wait to have collagen inserted into my soles...In due time. lol...Until Next Time...

Rock Bottom...
So I've had an ongoing joke about hitting "rock bottom" here in school...Well last night I was pretty close. I never thought that there could be a fast food place sketchier than Taco Bell UNTILLLL I ate at "Del Taco"... yeah that place was all bad and I think that my stomach hates me for it many hours later.
We ended up there after a car full of us decided to take a study break around 10 at night to get some dinner...yeah...this "hell week" (Five quizzes/tests/exam every day of the week), is almost over, but I'm completely drained. Sigh...Tomorrow is Friday and my last til exam will be over at noon. I just have to hang in there.. :( Until Next Time...

I "lol"ed
I just had to post this very quickly because it is cutting into my study time. I am not sure if you all have checked out Marc Jacobs "Special Items." Basically it is designs, clothing, and mostly accessories by Marc Jacobs for the low low. So I was browsing through the items, and at the end I came to a Marc Jacobs condom...yes I said it. A condom.. Marc Jacobs is selling condoms for $1.50 in their Marc by Marc Jacobs stores. "Remember safety first! xxoo, Marc Jacobs"... Yeah I don't know what that is about. Here is the link Check this out.
Anyways...there are also many other really cute and reasonably priced things you can check out. So here is the general website. http://www.marcjacobs.com/#/en-us/specialitems.. I mean who doesn't want designer clothes for the low. Until Next Time...

Don't Think I forgot...
So things have been extra crazy...hence no post in so long. But don't think I forgot...I check my blog almost everyday just to randomly read some updates from people in my "Blogroll." I think I am starting to get into the groove of everything. Basically that means study until you can't study anymore. Today I studied for 8 hours...yes...8 hours. That's so crazy to me. I didn't think I was capable of that amount of studying and focusing. I'll a little bit impressed with myself, but I'll be impressed when I got my tests back with A's on them.Next week is my first real exam week...I have an exam/quiz on every single day (Mon- Fri)... Again the madness...I just can't wait til' I'm no longer a "firstie"...Well I tried to enjoy Labor Day weekend as much as I could. I went to some cool places in STL on Friday and Saturday both days I hung out with ChasDizz...yay for friends. On Friday we "attempted" to go to the club, but that was crazy, so we just went to the casino instead, where I met a "mini-stalker," then we headed to a hookah bar which was great...stayed there til' 3, then steak and shake and then I went to bed at 6am (I had to watch RHWOA)... Ca-razy...
Then Saturday we went to the "City Museum" which was sooo much fun, we were there for ~4 hours. That place is seriously an adult playground. Loads of fun, next time I'll come fully prepared, but I enjoyed myself. Oh and right place/right time, we ended up seeing a magic show/circus. That was really entertaining... :) Loved every minute of it! Oh and I had the best cupcake ever. We went to Jilly's cupcake's and I had the "Jilly's on the beach." Keylime cupcake with mango frosting. mmmm...yummy And the lady hooked me up with a Blueberry Coffee cake or something like that. It was extra delicious..gosh I want to go back, but umm FUNDS ARE LOW and DEBTS ARE HIGH... and that cupcake was $5!
Guess what I did on Sunday and Monday...ok that wasn't that hard. Yup I studied. Something that I find interesting is that the Panera Bread places are called Saint Louis Bread Company...guess why? It was started here and this is where the headquarters is...So I treated myself to Panera/STL bread company on Monday. Yummy as usual.
So all of the studying and stress that I have been under have had two main positive manifestations. The first is I have been eating really healthy most days. I look forward to my daily salads and I have been taking my vitamins pretty regularly. The second is I have been keepng up with scripture readings. This summer I bought "God's Daily Promises for Women" it has bible verses accompanied by some wisdom that is drawn from that particular bible verse. That has been very encouraging and positive. For example, yesterday's topic was on Gentleness and today's is on the Will of God, tomorrow's is on Faithfulness and Thursday's is on Overwhelmed. So yeah I absolutely love this book.
On another note, I have been jamming to Trey Songz "Ready" for like 2 days straight now. I think my favorite songs right now are "Does he do It" and "Jupiter Love." Man...I'm listening to the album now. Anyways...I figured I would go to sleep somewhat early. Until Next Time...

Race & Epi
So I had to take a quick break from studying and type this post...I have been pretty uneasy since this morning in my Epidemiology class and then I just had a frustrating convo with someone on facebook (my blood was starting to boil, not necessarily because of what he was saying, but because I know that a lot of people feel that way). Anyways...so in my Epi class today we were talking about basic Epi things...and for those of you that don't know... Epidemiology is basically "the study of distribution and determinants of diseases and injuries in human populations."
So of course the discussion turned to race because that is a big part of Epi because the three most important characteristics for predicting the prevalance and frequency of a disease are Age, Sex, and Ethnic Group/Race. Keeping in mind that none of this is too new to me because for a second I was a Global Health minor, so we learned most of this in my global health class. Anyways...so after some discussion a slide comes up that has...
-Blacks have substantially higher rates of death caused by:
So I am just sitting there taking it all in...I could feel my blood starting to boil a little and I was feeling uncomfortable, since I am one of two black people in my class. And then we go on to make a general trend in most diseases that the frequency occurs in this ascending order whites, asians, hispanics, and then blacks.. So basically black folks have majority of preventable illnesses. (Again none of this was new, but I felt like all of the white people were looking at me...it was just an overall weird feeling).
So then we start talking about life expectancy and average for these groups are...
White Females- 81 years
White Males- 76 years
Black Female- 76 years
Black Male- 69 years..
Yeah take from that what you will...Just the rest of the class was pretty tense and I was just ready til' it was over, but I know that is more where that came from. The part that made it all so bad was that it is REALITY.
When I hear people say they are independent of their race and all kinds of craziness like that, I usually just gasp in my head. Yes you may not all the time be aware of your race, but honestly being black is a risk factor for sooo many diseases...it's crazy. Of course I am and always have been aware of my race (that isn't necessarily a bad thing), but it hard not to be when you are one of 2 blacks...sigh...
So I was sharing some of these stats with a friend/acquaintance and he had all of these silly reasons of why things were the way they were and I was fine with that, but when he told me that there is nothing I can do about it, that black folks will never change their ways. It made me really frustrated! Black people are dying and underachieving left and right and I don't see why we as a black population are not more accountable for each other. We always seem to be trying to separate ourselves from certain parts of the black community and what not, but we CANNOT and WILL NOT progess as a people if we keep on deciding to just "do us" and forget about others... All of the "get quick rich" schemes are just getting old...I don't mean to end abruptly, but I need to studying...Until Next Time...
